The Banks is being adapted to the big screen by MACRO, the production banner behind movies like Sorry to Bother You.
The movie adaption of The Banks will be based on the original comic series from TKO Studios, which was written by Roxane Gay, illustrated by Ming Doyle, colored by Jordie Bellaire, and lettered by Ariana Maher.
The Banks follows the story of the most successful thieves in the city of Chicago: the women of the Banks family. But after the heist of a lifetime brings three generations of Banks women together, they’ll have to work alongside one another in order to ensure a loved one is properly avenged.
Hollywood Reporter revealed that Gay will be writing the screenplay for the adaption, as well as serving as Executive Producer. Charles D. King, Poppy Hanks, and Jelani Johnson will also produce for MACRO, while Salvatore Simeone and Tze Chun, the co-founders of TKO Studios, and Jatin Takker will also be producers.
Now is a great time to catch up on the source material for the movie. All six issues have been collected into a trade paperback, and if you’d prefer the floppy experience, there is even a slipcase edition with all six individual issues.
The Banks is the latest crime comic to be adapted to the screen. On the small screen, Stumptown has gained a devoted following. And last year, The Kitchen – also based on a comic illustrated by Doyle – was released in theaters.
Who would you cast for the role of Clara, Cora, and Celia Banks? Any directors you think would be best for the project? What crime comics do you hope make their way to the screen next? And we will actually be able to go see The Banks in a real-life, out of the house theater? Let us know what you think in the comment section!
The movie will be based on the TKO Studios graphic novel.
