It’s finally happening. Disney+ is getting a Star Wars Holiday Special.
But it won’t be the infamous 90-minute variety show from 1978. Instead, the new LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will be a 45-minutes animated story set after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. According to Variety, the story will see “Rey as her further investigation of the Force launches her and BB-8 across the history of the Skywalker Saga” while the rest of the gang prepares for Life Day on Chewbacca’s home planet of Kashyyyk.
The Wookie planet first debuted in the original holiday special, which revolved around Chewie’s family preparing for Life Day. The program featured the entire Star Wars cast and special guests like Art Carney, Bea Arthur, and Harvey Korman. The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special promises voices from the Sequel Trilogy will also reprise their roles, but it is unclear who will come back. Considering John Boyega‘s comments of late and Oscar Isaac‘s apathy on the Rise of Skywalker press tour, they would seem to be the least likely to return.
Indeed, the film seemed to crush the Star Wars spirits of a lot of its cast, but maybe the power of Life Day will heal their hearts.
The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is set to stream on Life Day, November 17th, on Disney+.
