‘I Am Not Okay With This’ Loses Its Second Season Because Of Pandemic Woes

I Am Not Okay With This has been cancelled and, well, the show’s title mirrors our feelings on the matter.

Based on the graphic novel by Charles Forsman, the program starred Sophia Lillis as Sydney, a teenage girl whose sudden onset of telepathic abilities coincides with a lot of other shattering adolescent changes. Featuring equal amounts of humor, pathos, and even a few horror elements, the program proved to be a great comic book adaptation and something we looked forward to seeing more of. According to Deadline, scripts for a second season were written, but managing the cast and crew in an environment still literally plagued by COVID-19 led Netflix to cancel it and fellow youth-skewing program The Society.

“We’re disappointed to have to make these decisions due to circumstances created by COVID, and we are grateful to these creators, including: Jonathan Entwistle, Christy Hall, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry at 21 Laps Entertainment for I Am Not Okay With This; Chris Keyser, Marc Webb and Pavlina Hatoupis for The Society; and all the writers, casts and crews who worked tirelessly to make these shows for our members around the world,” Netflix said in a statement. It seems many more programs may face the axe as uncertainty about producing live action television continues to be an issue for the streaming giants and networks alike.

Nevertheless, the first season of I Am Not Okay With This is definitely worth your time. Each episode is around 20 minutes long, but you may find yourself binging all seven episodes within a single afternoon.

And while its heartbreaking to see this show go before its time, we’re glad it gave us Bloodwitch as part of the deal. Seriously, go listen to their album. It’s really good.
