Kaiju Score, the forthcoming comic from writer James Patrick and artist Rem Broo, has had its film rights acquired by Sony Pictures prior to the first issue release in November.
The book, which is being published by AfterShock Comics, is a heist story…in which the heist has to be executed underneath the nose of a kaiju, and it’s being billed as “what happens when a Quentin Tarantino film takes place smack in the middle of a Godzilla movie.”
In a press release Tuesday, AfterShock announced that the rights were acquired in a competitive situation. Other info about the deal includes a note that Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch are slated to produce the film, working with Tony Shaw, who brought it to Sony. Other producers include AfterShock’s Lee Kramer and Jon Kramer. Overseeing the project for Sony Pictures will be Jiao Chen, with the press release noting that Drew Reed and Jake Bauman were instrumental in the deal, as was Rive Gauche Television with Steve Burkow of Ziffren, Brittenham, who negotiated on behalf of AfterShock.
Kaiju Score #1 is due out November 25, and this marks the first time that an AfterShock property has been optioned for film prior to first issue publication.
