Shaman King is making its return to digital exclusively on ComiXology and Kindle. Beginning next month, all 35 volumes Hiroyuki Takei’s manga will be available, along with the never-before-published official English translations of the final three arcs. Publisher Kodansha is working with the online comics platform to include it under the ComiXology Originals umbrella, so anyone with an Unlimited or Amazon Prime subscription will be able to read for free.
If you’ve already read through the main series, worry not – there’s more. Kodansha will also be adding all Shaman King spin-off series to ComiXology over the course of October and December. The first spinoff, Shaman King Zero will be available October 13, 2020, with Shaman King: Flowers available October 20, 2020, Shaman King: Red Crimson, available October 27, 2020, and Shaman King: Super Star available December 8, 2020.
Serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump, Takei’s manga originally ran from 1998-2004. It follows medium Yoh Asakura in his journey to gain the titular moniker and the power to reshape the world how he wishes by winning the Shaman Fight and making contact with the Great Spirit. Look for the main title to hit ComiXology on October 6, along with brand new cover art from Takei. Scroll down for a first look at those, and quotes from Takei and Kodansha. For those who prefer physical to digital, Kodansha will also be releasing 3-in-1 omnibus editions, staggered from February 2021 through 2022.
“It’s been over 10 years since I’ve completed Shaman King. But finally –– at last –– I can deliver the true ending to the story to the fans in America,” says creator Hiroyuki Takei. “It’s a message from my heart, and I think it’s a particularly important one in this day and age. I hope that it’ll reach the hearts of many comrades.”
“We appreciate all the patience and support we’ve received from our fans while we worked to create the best possible manga experience for Shaman King,” said Kodansha USA Publishing President & CEO Alvin Lu. “This is the release Hiroyuki Takei‘s shonen manga classic deserves, and it will be accompanied by the whole compendium of its sequels and prequels. A lot here to thrill fans both new and old!”
