Comic book based series Riverdale and Batwoman are among a number of Vancouver productions shut down amid in a delay in COVID-19 testing results.
Variety reports the stoppage is likely only a temporary measure as the backlog of tests required for various casts and crews in the Canadian production hub catches up. Sadly, the delay means production on shows set to begin this week, including Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and The Flash, have also been postponed.
Vancouver was one of the earliest production centers to resume operations as Canada handled the COVID-19 pandemic in a sober and effective way. Among the procedures meant to keep crews safe while working include a lot of 14-day quarantines and constant COVID-19 testing. According to Variety, Supernatural was able to complete its final production block thanks in part to testing cast and crew every three days. But if every show is requiring the same sort of constant monitoring, it is easy to see how the backlog would grow. Keep in mind that while the Warner Bros. Television shows are our main focus here, Vancouver is home to many productions on various networks, cable channels, and streaming outlets.
As always, we hope these shows can get back to work quickly, but we also hope the city and surrounding environs continue to be a safe workplace for everyone involved.
