Image has just announced that The Department of Truth #1 by James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds has been rushed back to print after over 100,000 initial orders and an initial sell-out of its debut last week.
Tynion IV is on quite a roll of late – besides writing a little old thang called Batman, he’s been launching his own publishing efforts, by the name of Tiny Onion Studios including the horror anthology Razorblades. I highly recommend subscribing to his newsletter to follow along with his efforts, including details on his career planning in these uncertain times.
The series’ timely premise is about a man who discovers that some of the best known conspiracy theories – from JFK’s assassination to reptilian aliens are all true Who is coevring them up and why?
According to Image, it’s the third biggest launch since publisher Eric Stephenson took overin 2008, behind Jupiter’s Legacy #1 in 2013 and this week’s The Walking Dead Deluxe #1. So two records in short order – impressive for these plague times.
“I’m honestly speechless. You work on a comic book for a few years in isolation, and you hope that people are going to connect with it, but you never really know,” said Tynion IV in a statement. “Seeing the response to this series, both on a critical and a commercial front, has been absolutely staggering. Thank you so much for putting your faith in this little book. I am going to work my butt off to make sure it stays the best comic book it can be.”
Simmonds added: “It’s fair to say that the response to The Department of Truth has been quite incredible. To know that so many people have picked up the first issue, and that the reaction has been so enthusiastic, is extra rocket fuel for us to make sure we continue making a book that keeps readers engrossed with every turn of the page. Thank you for all the support, it means the world to us.”
The Department of Truth #1 second printing (Diamond Code SEP208030) will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, November 4.
The Department of Truth #1 is also available for purchase across many digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.
