NYCC ’20: Robert Kirkman debuts first INVINCIBLE trailer

After unveiling a first look the character designs by Invincible co-creator artist Cory Walker, the NYCC panel with today didn’t waste any time by debuting the first official Invincible trailer.

Joined by moderator Hector Navarro, Invincible writer/co-creator Robert Kirkman said that he and head writer Simon Racioppa have been working very closely on the series and would retain the same flavor fans would expect. Nevertheless, he did concede they are changing some characters and “adding some spice” to keep fans familiar with the original series guessing.

Navarro pointed out that based on the trailer, it seems fair to say the show isn’t holding back on the violence and asked the importance of keeping that element. According to Kirkman, the violence is the “secret sauce” of Invincible by juxtaposing the mundane with the superhero fantasy and adding an element of realism.

In addition to the aforementioned Walker as the lead artist on the animated series, Kirkman also revealed that while former Invincible lead artist Ryan Ottley is also involved as a consultant on the animated series, joking that Ottley would be more involved in he wasn’t busy “slumming” it at Marvel. Kirkman praised how Walker continues to innovate, specifically the tweaks he made for the designs of the Guardians of the Globe in the animated series.

Featuring an all-star cast including The Walking Dead alumnus Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson, Navarro and Kirkman were blown away by the caliber of talent involved.

Navarro was able to squeeze an exclusive scoop from Kirkman with, with the reveal that not only will the character Battle Beast appear in the series but he will be voiced by none other than Michael Dorn.

 

INVINCIBLE is an adult animated superhero series that revolves around 17-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), who’s just like every other guy his age — except his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). But as Mark develops powers of his own, he discovers his father’s legacy may not be as heroic as it seems. From Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead. Coming to Prime Video in 2021.
