From the outside looking in Burbank can be a funny old place. And, today is no different.
If you live in the glitzy dreamworld that is Burbank you will be waking up to a brand new edition to your world in the shape of a seven foot tall bronze Batman statue situated on the AMC Walkway of Downtown Burbank.
Based on Jim Lee’s fan favourite ‘Hush’ 12 issue saga starting in Batman #609, and sculpted by digital sculptor, Alejandro Pereira Ezcurra, and expertly crafted in bronze by the skilled artisans at Burbank’s American Fine Arts Foundry and Fabrication. The final statue measures seven-and-a-half feet tall and weighs 600 pounds. And, a rather strange edition if you ask me. I mean, with so many real life heroes we have to thank this year alone, thanks to the crippling pandemic we’re still living in the shadow of, it seems weird reporting on the unveiling of a pricey statue for a totally fictional hero. But then, this is Hollywood where the real world doesn’t get too much of a toe hold. Unless it’s in a movie remake of their life story.
So, is this new corporate art (An oxymoron, surely?) a waste of money or an appropriate celebration of DC Comics legacy? I know which side I land on, what about you?
