While Marvel Studios has yet to confirm Hailee Steinfeld is playing Kate Bishop on the upcoming Hawkeye Disney+ series, a few more notable names are reportedly joining the cast.
According to Variety, actors Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Alaqua Cox, and Zahn McClarnon will appear in the program. Additional, Florence Pugh will reportedly also join the cast for some episodes. This seemingly confirms rumors the Black Widow actor would reprise her role as Yelena Belova from that film in Hawkeye. It only makes sense as one of the program’s title characters had a close friendship with Natasha Romanov (Scarlett Johansson). Meanwhile, Cox is said to be playing Echo and Farmiga will likely play Kate’s often-missing mother Eleanor — although, we think she’d make a great Madame Masque as well …
Of course, all reports are unconfirmed until Marvel makes some sort of statement. As it happens, they have yet to confirmed Steinfeld’s presence on set despite plenty of video and photos emerging yesterday indicating she is Kate Bishop. And to make it just slightly more silly, star Jeremy Renner posted a photo of his cast chair while welcoming Kate to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sure, he stopped short of mentioning Steinfeld, but as his chair was placed on the very same subway platform seen in the video and photos, it sure feels like he was confirming things in his own Renner sort of way.
The sudden emergence of Hawkeye in production is a big change from just a few weeks ago, when it seemed the show might be delayed because of casting issues, Renner’s headline-grabbing behavior, and a change at the executive level. But now that we’ve seen photos of Steinfeld as Kate holding Lucky’s leash, we’ll be happy to see Hawkeye when it debuts sometime in 2022.
