HBO Max Sets ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ For A March 18 Release

Zack Snyder‘s vision of Justice League is nearly upon us.

HBO Max announced Friday that it will debut his version of the troubled production, now known as Zack Snyder’s Justice League, on March 18th. The day will be the culmination of years of fan efforts to see the director’s cut of the film after he departed the project in 2017 to grieve a family tragedy. In his wake, Joss Whedon took the reins and delivered a film one could easily call compromised.

In the film, Diana (Gal Gadot) and Bruce (Ben Affleck), still reeling from the death of Superman (Henry Cavill) find they must band together a group of superpowered individuals to face an ancient and terrible threat from space. But when things become truly dire, they may also be forced to bring Superman back from his eternal reward. Will he be happy about that?

The plot is not all that different from the theatrical version of the film, but now that Snyder has spent additional funds to shoot new scenes, the four-hour epic will feature an expanded role for Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and an appearance by Darkseid, the legendary New God villain meant to be the threat in the second part of Snyder’s grand design for a two-part Justice League.

And while we’re not exactly fans of the director’s take on the DC Comics characters, we will be interested in seeing what his original idea was meant to be before real life and corporate concerns turned the film into an ill-fitting blend of his style and Whedonesque elements.
