Oni Press & Lion Forge Release Their Summer Slate For Children’s & YA Graphic Novels

Oni Press & Lion Forge Publishing Group has announced their new quartet of upcoming children’s and middle-grade graphic novels for summer 2021, including the return of Ted Naifehs Courtney Crumrin.

As we move into the year, hopefully moving into something of a new, safer, vaccinated normal, several publishers are now confidently announcing their publishing slate for the summer and beyond. It’s a great thing, just one small little bit of normality!

Oni Press & Lion Forge have a great set of books to look forward to with a kids/teens appeal coming out, all beginning with the return of Ted Naifeh‘s popular Courtney Crumrin character in The Crumrin Chronicles Vol 1: The Charmed and the Cursed, releasing in June 2021.

If you’re new to Courtney’s adventures, expect horror-fantasy with a tween curmudgeon witch and her brother Will, who’s spent a hundred years in the faerie world and now has to learn how to be ordinary. Although ordinary is always overrated!

Also released in June, we have the return of “everyone’s favorite heavy-metal-karaoke-singing red panda” – Retsuko, in her first original graphic novel, Aggretsuko: Little Rei of Sunshine.

Aggretsuko began as an anime web television series based on the character created by Yeti for the mascot company Sanrio. But in Aggretsuko: Little Rei of Sunshine by Brenda Hickey, we get to go deeper into the origins of Retsuko’s passion for metal music.

Pitched at fans of the Netflix show, Aggretsuko: Little Rei of Sunshine find Retsuko’s favorite band reuniting for a special concert and looking to take over her favourite karaoke bar. Yes, we’re definitely going to see Retsuko and friends fight for their right to party in a metal vs. metal vocal battle!

Dragon Racer is a brand-new graphic novel from Joey Weiser (creator of Ghost Hog) bringing back fan-favorite characters Truff, Claude, and Stanley from Ghost Hog, along with a brand-new friend, Vern!

Racing stories and funny animals – a fast and furious proposition for younger readers!

And finally, in July, we’ll have the release of Star Beasts by Stephanie Young and Allyson Lassiter, telling ‘the (sorta) true (not really) story of why Pluto is no longer a planet,‘ and asking the question, ‘what if your pet was secretly a space hero on a mission to protect Earth?’

Young puppy Bandit leaves his family behind on Earth to join the secret order of Star Beasts, cosmic creatures sworn to protect Earth—only not everyone is as welcoming as he thought they might be, and Bandit finds himself having difficulties fitting in. Powerful galactic relics are stolen, there’s an evil emperor of Pluto with nefarious plans, and the Earth is under threat!
