Doug Wagner And Daniel Hillyard Join Forces Once More For New Horror Comedy, ‘Vinyl’ From Image Comics

I have a particularly fond connection with Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard’s Plastic comic book series from Image Comics as it was one of the first series I reviewed when I started out as a lowly reviewer here on Comicon.com. I was even more blown away that Doug Wagner agreed to be interviewed too! And now, several years later, the two creators team up agina in a mini-series I cannot help but feel is connected with the aforementioned horror comedy. After all, this new series is called Vinyl, so I’m immediately excited about the prospector some connection between the two, no matter how tenuous. Are we seeing the evolution of  some kind of shared universe full of serial killers with sexual kinks? I do hope so.

Billed as a mix of Dexter and Nailbiter, Vinyl #1 will be out Wednesday, June 23rd from Image Comics and we even get a first look at a book that I will be adding to my pull list immediately.

When Walter’s best friend, the FBI agent charged with his capture, is kidnapped by a death cult of all-female sunflower farmers, Walter finds himself deep within an underground labyrinth filled with secrets and monsters…but are their monsters more horrific than his?

Here’s what Wagner said about putting the band back together:

“This is all Daniel Hillyard’s fault. He asked if I thought we could create a story about serial killers, inhuman monsters, and a cult of sunflower farmers all trapped together inside an underground bunker. I mean, you have to do that, right?”

Hillyard added:

“If you liked Plastic, then brace yourself! Vinyl is the sickest, most messed up, beautiful thing Doug and I have worked on to date. I’m biased, of course, but what can I say. I love our gore-baby.”
