Last year, Comixology released Crema, Johnnie Christmas, Dante Luiz, and Ryan Ferrier‘s horror-romance graphic novel, as part of their Comixology Originals lineup of titles. Now Crema is set to get a print release from Dark Horse Comics, as part of the publisher’s ongoing partnership with Comixology.
Here’s how Comixology describes Crema:
Esme, a barista, feels invisible, like a ghost…. Also, when Esme drinks too much coffee she actually sees ghosts.
Yara, the elegant heir to a coffee plantation, is always seen, but only has eyes for Esme.
Their world is turned upside down when the strange ghost of an old-world nobleman begs Esme to take his letter from NYC to a haunted coffee farm in Brazil, to reunite him with his lost love of a century ago. Bringing sinister tidings of unrequited love.
Crema‘s print debut is the latest title published by Dark Horse Comics for New York Times bestseller Johnnie Christmas. In 2016 Christmas co-created Angel Catbird with The Handmaid’s Tale author Margaret Atwood, which had three volumes published by Dark Horse in 2016 and 2017. In 2019 Christmas also wrote and illustrated a critically-acclaimed adaptation of screenwriter William Gibson‘s unproduced script for Alien 3 for the publisher.
On the announcement of Crema‘s print debut, Christmas had this to say:
“I’m buzzing with excitement that CREMA is coming to print in this wonderful new edition,” says Christmas. “I can’t wait to finally hold it in my hand, with an Americano in the other (ample crema of course). Two dark, sweet treats to raise the spirit and warm the heart.”
Crema joins the other Comixology Unlimited titles to see print releases from Dark Horse, including Chip Zdarsky and Jason Loo‘s Eisner-winning Afterlift, Curt Pires and Alex Diotto‘s Youth, and Monica Gallagher, Alex Segura, and George Kambadais‘s The Black Ghost.
Check out a four-page preview for Crema below. The 136-page graphic novel goes on sale in comic shops on Wednesday, December 5th, 2021, and in bookstores on Tuesday, January 4th, 2022. It’s available for preorder from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and your local comic shop now.
