With a flip of a coin, the perception of The Batman (Jensen Ackles) and Gotham City can change. This is the key takeaway from the new trailer for Batman: The Long Halloween Part One. The DC Animated Movie adapts the classic tale by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale in which Batman, still new to crime-fighting, faces a killer who only works on holidays and seems committed to wiping out Gotham’s mob bosses. Which is funny as new District Attorney Harvey Dent (voiced by Josh Duhamel in the movie) wants to wipe out the city’s mafia problem as well. Just, y’know, via the law. Or does he? Maybe another flip of a coin will help.
Besides Ackles and Duhamel, the film also features the voices of the late Naya Rivera, who passed away in 2020, as Catwoman/Selina Kyle; Billy Burke as James Gordon; Titus Welliver as Carmine Falcone; David Dastmalchian as Calendar Man, Troy Baker as Joker, Amy Landecker as Barbara Gordon; Julie Nathanson as Gilda Dent; Jack Quaid as Alberto Falcone; Fred Tatasciore as Solomon Grundy; Jim Pirri as Sal Maroni; and Alastair Duncan as Alfred. Frances Callier, Greg Chun and Gary Leroi Gray also lend their voices to the film.
Behind the camera, Superman: Man of Tomorrow‘s Chris Palmer directs from a script by Reign of the Supermen and Superman: Man of Tomorrow‘s Tim Sheridan. Jim Krieg (Batman: Gotham by Gaslight) and Sheridan serve as producers while Butch Lukic (Justice Society: World War II, Superman: Man of Tomorrow) is the supervising producer. Michael Uslan and Sam Register serve as executive producers.
And, as always, the disc release will come with a number of special features, including another DC Showcase short film. This one focuses on The Losers as they find themselves marooned on an dinosaur-filled island in the South Pacific. Working with Fan Long of the Chinese Security Agency to study the apparent time/space anomaly, the WWII-era outcasts wonder about her agenda and their real purpose on the island. Other features include a sneak peek at Batman: The Long Halloween Part Two, and two episodes of Batman: The Animated Series: “Christmas With The Joker” and “It’s Never Too Late.”
Batman: The Long Halloween Part One debuts on digital and disc June 22nd.
