Fingerless is a wordless horror story by underground comix artist, Spugna. The story is set in a depressing cartoon world of hyper-commercialism and isolation. This funhouse-mirror vision of human society is interrupted by the arrival of strangers with boots on their heads and sinister agendas.
Fingerless is like a ’50s alien invasion movie directed by David Lynch. The cartoony visuals would feel right at home in an R-rated Courage the Cowardly Dog episode. The men with boots on their heads could be an allegory to the rise of Fascism, but the story is purposefully kept vague and open for interpretation.
Fingerless is a bizarre horror story that gave me chills and a feeling of unease with a minimal amount of blood and gore. Spugna has delivered the type of horror that lingers long after you’ve closed the book. This is a creator with a unique twisted vision to keep an eye on.
Fingerless is available now from Hollow Press.
