Since the Aquaman sequel is roughly eighteen months for release, it is definitely time for it to have a proper title. Thankfully, director James Wan had the same thought and revealed the title — Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom — on his Instagram Thursday night.
The title offers some hint to the story, provided by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, as there is a lost Atlantean kingdom mentioned in the first film. Stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, and Patrick Wilson return as Arthur, Mera, and Orm, respectively. Yayha Abdul-Mateen II is also presumably returning as Black Manta, but it remains to be seen if he will move into lead antagonist position or continue to be a secondary obstacle to Arthur’s goals. Pilou Asbæk is also said to be playing a part in the film, although it is unclear what his role might be.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set for release on December 16th, 2022.
