It’s been a long time since Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett) sacrificed himself to stop the threat of his time-traveling descendant, Eobard Thawne (played by both Tom Cavanagh and Matt Letscher across the years). And though the character’s death didn’t stop the Reverse-Flash from plaguing the lives of Barry Alllen (Grant Gustin) and his family, Eddie’s sacrifice was never forgotten or undone by Barry’s mucking in time or the Crisis on Infinite Earths.
At least, we don’t think it’s been reversed.
TVLine reports Cosnett is back on The Flash set as Eddie for a special flashback episode in the midst of the upcoming five-part “Armageddon” story. The episode will mark the actor’s fourth return to the series since the character’s death in the Season 1 finale — although we’re debating whether or not a video message left by Eddie and subsequently found by Team Flash counts as a full appearance. But accounting for the video, none of Eddie’s returns have been, well, a return. Either we find him in a flashback, alive in the past via time-travel, or the Speed Force using Eddie’s face. This time would seem to be no different, but we can’t help but wonder if, at long last, the Reverse-Flash will use his ancestor’s face to once again trouble the West-Allen clan.
Then again, this could just be a normal guest appearance like TVline suggests …
The Flash returns November 16th on The CW.
