5 Things You Didn’t Know About Rick And Morty

Unlikely Partners

From the first moment we met mad scientist Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith, his grandson, people have been hooked on their madcap adventures. Since then, we’ve had a host of surprises. From an actual surprise episode, to The Art Of Rick And Morty, creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon have continually kept fans guessing as to what may be coming next in their crazy world.

With so many little twists and turns throughout, you would be forgiven for not being able to retain everything you’ve learned about the much-loved characters. So we take a look into the world of Rick and Morty, to bring you five things that you might not know about them and their origin…

Time travel is not happening

Although there has been almost every sci-fi concept used in the show to date, there’s no way you’re going to see the two characters time travelling like Marty McFly. But before you sit and ponder, whilst Rick and Morty haven’t travelled through time and won’t, there’s a chance that bending time could be something that we do see them attempt at some point.

Get saucy

How many times have you seen a show be that popular, or that influential, it moves huge corporations into releasing a previously loved product? It doesn’t happen very often that’s for sure. But thanks to Rick and Morty it certainly did. The fans of the show in the US demanded that burger giant, McDonalds, brought back Szechuan sauce to their menu. It’s not been available in the UK unfortunately, but it was something that used to be on the menu in the States which Rick mentioned in the show. Following Rick’s monologue, it brought fans of the show to demand a return for the zesty sauce to dip their McNuggets in. McDonalds listened too, although its introduction was short lived, it proved how pop culture can sometimes make big business consider its options.

Slot success

Like most themed slot games out there, this one takes a fairly traditional format and infuses it with images from the source material. In this case that means that characters, items, and background images from Rick and Morty more or less take over the slot reel, making for a fun game for anyone who knows the show. Enhancing the enjoyment even further is the fact that the gameplay is actually pretty robust. Foxy Games notes in a piece looking at different TV show-based slots that the Rick and Morty game is built on the Megaways engine, which means there are 117,649 ways for players to win. Not bad, though we imagine Rick would have a few choice things to say about the odds despite that number.

Six hours

That’s all it took for Roiland and Harmon to write the pilot episode of the show. It wasn’t all smooth sailing though as it took Justin Roiland to stop Dan Harmon from walking away, mid-plot, to get it done. Roiland mocked his co-writer and scoffed that it would take three months to get it done if he left, or they could just get it done in the day. It’s a good job he stayed, who knows if we’d have ever seen the pair come to life if not. That swift turnover was also experienced when the show was pitched to TV executives; it took just a matter of hours for them to agree it should be broadcast. It’s a shame the delay between series isn’t so short too though!

Beer belching

Whilst that sounds disgusting, we all know that Rick loves a drink and of course, to let out what is almost a trademark burp. Did you know there is an authenticity behind the gassy sound? They’re quite often brought to the show due to Roiland enjoying a beer or two during recording. He says it allows him to bring a wackier character who’s more likely to ramble on in a more amusing manner. Talk about taking one for the team!
