Is Damien Wayne is getting ready for his big CW break?
Variety reports Batwoman writers Natalie Abrams, James Stoteraux, and Chad Fiveash are developing a take on Gotham Knights for the network. The premise: The Batman has died and his “rebellious adopted son” must form an “unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader.” Now wanted by the GCPD, the group must fight to clear their names in a Gotham with no Dark Knight hovering over it. Will they become the next generation of heroes for a city without hope?
The logline does leave some ambiguity regarding the lead character. An adopted son of Batman could mean Dick Grayson or Jason Todd — although both predominately featured in the most season of Titans. Maybe it will be a chance for Duke Thomas to take the lead. And yes, Tim Drake could be considered an adopted son, but when was he ever truly rebellious?
Arrowverse uber-producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden are all aboard as executive producers, which suggests the program will exist within the Arrowverse framework, but perhaps it will take place on an alternate Earth a la Stargirl and Naomi. Stoteraux and Fiveash, currently EPs on Batwoman, will lead the show’s creative team with Abrams serving as a co-executive producer.
As with all newly announced projects, it is unclear when or if the show may make it to air. Of course, considering The CW’s track record with quick turnarounds on DC projects, this could come together quite quickly.
