Who Will Be The Next James Bond?

What’s Next For 007

Ever since it was clear Daniel Craig would be handing in his 007 badge after his last depiction of secret agent James Bond in the newest film “No Time To Die”, speculation on who will be replacing him have soared…

The British actor with his steel-blue eyes has held the iconic role for over a decade and a half, and the time has come to pass the torch to a new agent 007. The rumour mill has been churning, with fans speculating and actors throwing their hats into the ring. No decision has been made yet, and producer Barbara Broccoli even said casting would not happen until 2022. She did, however, give away some first juicy details on the nationality and gender of the future agent on her Majesty’s Secret Service.

Barbara Broccoli confirms 007 gender and nationality

Helm of production Barbara Broccoli was recently quizzed about who might be the future James Bond. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she revealed the next agent 007 following Craig should be British and a man. With that statement, she put an end to previous speculations that the next Bond could be played by a woman – which were partly spurred on by the fact that actress Lashana Lynch temporarily took on the number 007 in “No Time To Die”. However, Broccoli doesn’t think James Bond should be played by a woman, because she believes they should make movies for women about women, rather than having a woman play a man’s role (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Who’s in the list of potential candidates?

While this gives us some insight on who the future James Bond could be, it still leaves a huge number of possible candidates – namely every British male actor who might have what it takes to play Bond, James Bond. There are a few actors on the list of rumoured candidates and fan favourites. One who has made it to the top of the board is Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page after he revealed he wouldn’t be returning to the hit Netflix series for the second season. Venom actor Tom Hardy is another favourite among possible candidates, as well as Scotsman Sam Heughan. The star of Outlander, if cast, would be the second Scottish Bond after Sean Connery. One name has been rumoured already for a long time: Henry Cavill. The Superman actor almost took over the role of Bond after Pierce Brosnan back in 2005 – he was the second choice behind Craig but was too young at the time. Could it be his time to take up the mantle of 007 now?

James Bond’s iconic character

While we don’t know who the next James Bond will be, it’s safe to assume that some characteristics of 007 will stay the same. He’s Bond, James Bond, the man with the golden gun and a licence to kill. He doesn’t just save the world from the worst villains that have walked the earth, he does it wearing a custom tuxedo, driving a fancy car, with a beautiful lady by his side. No matter how hard the mission, he does not lose his charm, and there’s always time for a visit to a glamorous casino. Casino scenes have become a returning element in all titles, with some iconic scenes such as Sean Connery’s roulette scene or Craig’s poker showdown going down in history. Bond’s influence on the world of casinos has even gone so far that a roulette strategy has been named after him. Nowadays, Roulette is one of the most popular casino games around the globe and is available to be played online, with a wide variety of casino platforms offering the classic on the web. With the widespread availability, it is gaining in popularity again today – and James Bond might have helped this trend along. It is, therefore, most likely safe to assume that the new 007 will be returning to the casino in another exciting scene. Whoever will be taking on the role has big shoes to fill.

The Craig era has come to an end, it’s time for a new actor to take up the mantle of 007 and save the world on her Majesty’s Secret Service. With Broccoli’s recent reveal, we now know we can expect a male British James Bond, but who will it be? Some great candidates have thrown their hats into the ring, but it might just be the person none of us has on their radar yet.
