CDProjektRED Announces A New Game In ‘The Witcher’ Series

Fans of open world RPGs can rejoice, as developer CDProjekt RED has confirmed that they’re working on another title in The Witcher franchise. This time around, the game will be developed in Unreal Engine 5, a change from their proprietary RED Engine that they used to develop all of their games from 2011 onwards. This is described as a “technology partnership” with Epic Games, but according to the developers, the game won’t be exclusive to any one storefront, like the Epic Games Store.

The Witcher franchise reached its creative and commercial peak with the third installment in the franchise, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 2015. At last count, the game sold over 30 million copies and according to their recent press release received 250 Game of the Year Awards.

This shift back to The Witcher is unsurprising, considering the reception CD Projekt got to their last game, Cyberpunk 2077. Despite being one of the most anticipated games of the generation and selling over 17 million copies, the game’s last-gen versions were both critically and commercially-panned. The reaction was so poor, CD Projekt offered refunds on all platforms, digital and physical. This resulted in the game being pulled off the PlayStation store for several months as CD Projekt’s refund policy didn’t align with Sony PlayStation’s policies.

No release date or any further information was announced about the project.
