Interpop Announces A Brand New Title In Their Emergents Universe With John Rozum’s The Abyss

Leap Into The Abyss

InterPop, a Web3 based digital entertainment company, debuted its first three comic book series The Nine, Emergents Present and #ZoeMG on the Tezos blockchain in 2021, and is now expanding its slate with the new spinoff title, The Abyss.

InterPop’s first set of series introduced readers to the core characters of its superpowered Emergents Universe over multiple issues, and will continue to tell more stories within this world with this brand new series.

InterPop not only allows readers to purchase digital comics at an affordable price and read issues on their own platform, InterPop Comics, but the Emergents Universe is also interactive; digital ownership empowers fans to make crucial decisions in the future of the characters, costumes, and storylines through fan voting. Plus, InterPop has brought top comics talent to the pages of multiple series over the past year, and is thrilled to announce the new creators of The Abyss, which is launching later this month.

After readers repeatedly voted for him to return to InterPop’s anthology series, Emergents Presents, the Abyss is finally receiving his own series, with issue #1 debuting on 25 May. Fans old and new can now follow the adventures of our favourite red-cloaked Emergent in The Abyss#1! When the Abyss finds out that his greatest enemy and nefarious crime lord, the Hat, is staging a breakout from a high-security Emergents prison, he takes matters into his own hands. The Abyss has shadows and magic on his side, but will that measure up against the Hat’s powerful Emergent henchmen? Thanks to reader votes, skeletal super villain Memento Mori returns from Emergents Presents #1 to get revenge with his gravestone bullets. Can the Abyss take down the Hat’s team in time to prevent Culverton’s most notorious criminals from escaping? The amazing Abyss creative team from Emergents Presents will be coming aboard for The Abyss series, including writer John Rozum, artist Cliff Richards, colourist Chris Sotomayor, and letterer Carlos Mangual, with stunning variant covers by Lucas Meyer and Jason Masters.

“Being in at the beginning is a rare privilege, and I’ve truly been enjoying building up our corner of the Emergents Universe,” said writer John Rozum. “I can’t thank InterPop enough for inviting me to do this, and for being a company full of people so enthusiastic for the world they are creating and sharing. It’s been a really great experience and I look forward to working with them for as long as possible. While the Abyss may be shrouded in mystery, my enthusiasm for him is not.”

“Right from our initial launch, our mysterious man in a red cloak has been the fan-favourite character with our readers,” said Group Editor Rachel Gluckstern. “John Rozum and Cliff Richards have taken a guy with no face nor name and made him an intriguing figure who’s both relatable and an enigma. I’m so grateful to this whole team who took an early risk with InterPop, and who are now about to embark on this mystical adventure!”

Fans can purchase the main edition of The Abyss #1 when it debuts on 25 May 2022 and will be able to participate in a vote that will affect future storyline choices in the series; the first series vote will close on June 1, 2022. A special variant edition featuring a cover by artist Jason Masters will be available on 1 June 2022, and a Lucas Meyer variant edition will debut on 8 June. The story will also become available in three free chunks, starting on a weekly basis on 1 June and the full issue will be available for free on June 22. Only those who purchase the issue will be able to participate in fan voting. The digital issue cost is comparable to the cost of buying other digital comics, but for the added bonus of owning the issue, getting zero ads, and gaining the ability to vote. All InterPop Comics issues are first available to purchase and then become available to read for free on the platform.

“One of the most unique aspects of InterPop’s digital comic approach is allowing owners to vote on various aspects of upcoming comics,” said Brian David-Marshall, InterPop President & Publisher. “The Abyss is a great example of how voting has shaped our publishing plans. Owners of Emergents Presents voted time and time again for the team of John Rozum and Cliff Richards to come back and tell another story featuring The Abyss and his fantastic gallery of rogues. The votes were so overwhelming that when it came time to add another title to our lineup there was no other choice than to listen to those fans.”

The first The Abyss series vote asked fans “who will return from the Abyss’ past?” Out of four choices, the superhero Moxie, a beauty queen with deadly strength, has taken the lead, with the vote ending on Monday, 2 May. Ahead of the launch of The Abyss solo series, this decides which of these teammates the Abyss will cross paths with again. The result will directly affect storylines in the series. Future votes will run on Mondays that will impact developmental plot points. Plus, as issues of The Abyss debut, readers will have access to more voting opportunities.

Added Brian David-Marshall: “Writer John Rozum has been excited by the challenge of fan voting and is working with our esteemed Group Editor Rachel Gluckstern to put himself and the Abyss into more stressful situations with a new outcome to vote on each month with the ongoing title.”

About InterPop:

InterPop is harnessing the emerging landscape of technology to revolutionize the way fans interact with digital entertainment (art, comics, games, and more). InterPop’s team and creative talent is composed of people who are just as much fans as they are industry professionals. InterPop’s goal is to bridge the gap between the latest technology and the classical conventions of fandom to create utterly unique experiences without compromising the nostalgia of collectibles, comics, and gaming culture.

About InterPop’s Emergents Universe:

The Emergents Universe plants us right in the heart of Culverton, a reflection of contemporary society that’s also a letter to the superhero genre. There are social media superhero stars. There are corporate raiders who trade in superhero futures. There are superhero chasers who like to see how close they can get to a fight in action. There are cult leaders and murderous clowns.

There are robots and assassins and amazingly strong beauty queens who can dazzle you with looks and then punch you out. There is the EFL—the Emergent Fighting League headlined by the powerful Devasatrix—which is like pro wrestling but cast with super-powered beings who have decided to use their powers in this way instead of traditional crime-fighting. There’s teen angst, family struggles, long-festering secrets, broken hearts, and body horror—all the best parts of superhero comics are here.
