One good thing about DC superheroes: they never go away for long.
Deadline reports The CW has ordered Gotham Knights to series. The program, from Batwoman‘s Natalie Abrams, James Stoteraux, and Chad Fiveash, takes place in a Gotham City where the Batman is dead and his “rebellious adopted son” forms an “unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies” when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. Wanted by the GCPD, the group must fight to clear their names in a Gotham with no Dark Knight hovering over it. Despite the presence of several Batwoman executive producers, it does not appear as though the show will take place on the Arrowverse’s Earth-Prime. That reality will be the domain of The Flash and Superman & Lois next Fall.
Oscar Morgan stars as Turner Hayes, the adopted son of Batman at the center of the trouble. Additional cast includes Olive Rose Keegan, Fallon Smythe, Tyler DiChiara, Misha Collins as Harvey Dent, Navia Robinson as Carrie Kelly, and Anna Lore as Stephanie Brown.
The decision to pick up the show comes in the wake of the largest mass cancellation on the network earlier on Thursday. Naomi, also based on DC Comics characters, was one of the six shows cut from the lineup. Other pickups include The Winchesters and Walker: Independence — prequel series to Supernatural and Walker, respectively. Nevertheless, the cancellations and pickups speak to a substantially different CW in the years ahead.
