Russell Crowe Enters The World Of Cards

Showing His Poker Face

It’s been a while since Hollywood released a movie about a game of poker, but we are certainly in for a treat later in the year. Academy Award winner and Hollywood A-lister Russell Crowe has an ace up his sleeve and is back in the director’s chair for the upcoming thriller Poker Face…

The film centres around a game of Texas Hold’em, just one of many types of poker games. Crowe stars as tech billionaire gambler Jake Foley who, together with a group of childhood pals, including Liam Hemsworth, gather each year for a poker night hosted by Jake at his lavish house.

Jake allows his close friends to win more money than they could ever dream of, but to participate, they will have to divulge the one thing they have spent their entire lives doing everything to protect: their most intimate, private thoughts, feelings, and secrets.

As the game unfolds, the friends soon discover the real stakes they are playing for, the biggest of them all. The movie features a big plot twist unbeknown to Jake; everyone has a secret plan for their host too!

What they don’t realise, however, is that Jake has yet another ace up his sleeve, and murder and mayhem quickly ensue, but, in true Hollywood style, that doesn’t even begin to describe what is awaiting them.

For Jake and his family to make it through the terrible night alive, they will need him to lie, bluff, and double-bluff their way through it. This will be especially important once they discover an intruder inside the house.

Poker Face is a bit of a cross between Panic Room and the Matt Damon poker movie, Rounders, and is much anticipated by film fans and critics alike.

The big-budget action-thriller was put on hold last year after several crew members tested positive for Covid. Still, filming has resumed in Fox Studios and on location in New South Wales, Australia, which is Crowe’s home country.

Poker Face 2022 will finally be ready for release later this year, as long as there are no more disasters.

Poker Face is Crowe’s second stint at directing, following critically acclaimed The Water Diviner, which was released in 2015 and won the Australian Academy award for best film. Two years ago, he featured in Unhinged.

Even though an official trailer for the film has not yet been made available, it seems as though Poker Face is going to be the kind of tense, high-octane thriller that we have come to anticipate from Hollywood in the post-pandemic era.

In addition to the gambling subgenre, this revenge thriller also features some ominous and tense undertones, as well as a pretty awesome, raucous, and noisy, high-speed car chase in and around Sydney’s Harbour Tunnel.

These elements combine to create an exciting and entertaining viewing experience. Poker Face will be up your alley if you like movies like Gone in 60 Seconds and The Fast and the Furious, so if that sounds like you, you should check it out.

Hollywood loves gambling movies, and with classics like Casino Royale, The Gambler, and Rounders, it’s not surprising that they are cashing in on this popular movie genre.

Whether you are a veteran poker player or have never played a card game for money in your life, any movie centred on gambling tends to have a solid following, which means Poker Face 2022 is going to be a sure-fire hit.

After appearing in Australian soap opera Neighbours in the 1980s, Russell Crowe’s popularity has grown exponentially, and he is very much in demand as both an actor and director.

When you consider some of the parts he’s played in some of Hollywood’s highest-grossing movies, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that he’s reached this level of success.

Maximus Decimus Meridius in the 2000 smash Gladiator and American Nobel Prize winner John Nash in the wonderful A Beautiful Mind, opposite fellow actor Jennifer Connelly are just two of his most notable roles.

Given the success of his directorial debut, we anticipate great things from Poker Face 2022 when it is finally released. Let’s hope there aren’t any more delays, and we can finally see what all the fuss is about.

Not quite a “straight to video” movie that we used to see a lot of in the 1980s, Poker Face isn’t going to be released in cinemas and is set to be available on Sky Original and also Sky Cinema towards the end of in 2022.
