Art For Art’s Sake #164: Van Goghing It Up With Alireza Karimi Moghaddam

Time once more for the segment we call Art For Art’s Sake, because there’s always some great art to look at on that there Internet…

Sometimes it’s just a mix of great comic art, sometimes we end with some longer appreciation of a comic artist – and sometimes, like here, I see something wonderful that isn’t quite comics but demands greater recognition.

So, today it’s Alireza Karimi Moghaddam, an Iranian artist I found via Roberta Gregory (the fabulous artist behind Bitchy Bitch and so much more), who found it via Louise Ann Bulcher. Moghaddam imagines Vincent Van Gogh across time, including these fabulous Herge homages…

More of those later, but first…

Rian Gonzales – loving Gwen…

And having that Vincent Van Gogh artwork already in my mind, I thought of the other great graphic novel work on Van Gogh, Vincent by Barbara Stok – published by SelfMadeHero in 2015.

And to end, well… as I said right at the beginning, the work of Iranian artist Alireza Karimi Moghaddam. You can find more on his Twitter and website, as well as this profile at Bored Panda.

He brilliantly imagines Vincent Van Gogh across time, including a gentle moment, possibly a relationship, who knows, with Frida Kahlo.

But mostly, they’re just beautiful meditations on art and the artist…
