Betty Wields A Chainsaw On Next Week’s ‘Riverdale’

If this week’s episode proved nothing else, it’s that Betty (Lili Reinhart) isn’t allowed to be happy. Finally, thanks to the help of her resurrected sister, Polly (Tiera Skovbye), she was able to look in the mirror and see a positive aura around herself (and yes, that is a ridiculous sentence and no, there’s no reason her aura shouldn’t have been glowing before this point, but that’s irrelevant). Betty never gets to feel anything close to relief, and when she approaches it, the show can’t even let her have the episode before killing off her mom, Alice (Mädchen Amick). Uncle Frank (Ryan Robbins) and Kevin’s dad (Martin Cummins) are dead, too, but what does death even mean on this show? Next week’s trailer seems to indicate that Archie (KJ Apa) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) are going to appeal to Percival (Chris O’Shea) for help, but he’s not exactly sympathetic to their cause.

So is this a sign that the show’s remaining parents are ready to move on? Not necessarily. Especially given that season seven has already been announced as Riverdale‘s last, it would be a shame to lose them now, so close to the end. This week we learned that Percival’s ancestor, General Pickens, is recruiting a ghost army. Could this be Riverdale‘s way of evening the scales, so Riverdale has some ghosts fighting for the town instead of with Percival (assuming that Percival can’t use his mind control from beyond the grave)?

Who wants to take bets now for who will be appearing as part of Percival’s ghost army? Betty’s dad (Lochlyn Munro)? TBK (Doug Chapman)? Hiram (Mark Consuelos)?

If there is a way that they can save the adults, will Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) have to send Polly and Jason (Trevor Hines) back to the Sweet Hereafter?

And is Mr. Cypher (Oliver Rice) the answer to how they’ll defeat Percival — by having the Devil call in his claim on Percival’s soul? Seems like a shaky plan at best.
