Shannon Maer is soon to deliver his first creator owned and fully-painted comic book series.
As part of its first day of SDCC announcements, Dynamite revealed Maer’s Sirens Gate will debut in October. Described as an urban fantasy, the series centers on Tara, an aspiring writer who “never thought of herself as anyone special.” But when a chance opportunity to meet with her literary idol, Lady Rose, presents itself, she enters a world where vampires, werewolves and all manner of supernatural beings are real. Will she survive in a reality where her dark fiction favorites are made of flesh and blood?
Maer serves as writer, painter, and letterer for the entire series. Aiding him on the journey is editor and business partner Becky Fuller. “Shannon has poured his heart and soul into this project and I believe that is reflected here,” she said in a statement. “This has become much more than a passion project for us, as it is a story that has been years in the making. We hope you enjoy reading about Tara as much as we’ve enjoyed telling her story.”
“As the pages began coming together, it felt like another level of dimension added to my work,” Maer added. “I loved exploring a scene from multiple angles, and still feeling like the entirety of the book was a singular painting.”
Additionally, Dynamite CEO and publisher Nick Barrucci said, “I’m honored that Shannon approached us, and we are working with him on his first creator-owned book where he is fulling painting the interiors to the series, and fans’ jaws will drop when they see the book.”
Sirens Gate #1 is set for release in October.
