Turns out the real big bad of season six isn’t Percival (Chris O’Shea). It’s Bailey’s Comet, and it’s coming for Riverdale in next week’s season finale. Given how ineffectual Percival ended up being, though, as a villain (sure, he was evil, but how many crimes of his actually stuck?), it’s hard to take this extinction threat very seriously. Then again, it almost seems like Jason (Trevor Stines) racked up a higher death toll than Percival, because either Heather (Caroline Day) didn’t survive the arrow to the chest he put through her, or Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) are smooching in this trailer for another reason:
Some thoughts on this week’s episode:
Who else doesn’t buy Cheryl roasting Jason so quickly? Yes, Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) planted the idea in Cheryl’s head that resurrecting Jason and Polly (Tiera Skovbye) might have consequences. I’m sure the possibility that she might have to kill them had occurred to her, but then why is Polly still alive? As her twin brother, Jason meant everything to Cheryl, so why would she let Polly live and not him? Granted, Polly wasn’t trying to kill her at the time. Jason was, but Archie (KJ Apa) and Veronica managed to disarm Abuelita (Ana Mercedes) and Reggie (Charles Melton) without resorting to bloodshed. Why wasn’t death a last resort, and sure, Polly seems pretty zen now since coming back from the grave, but is she going to be ok with losing Jason?
Why does Tabitha (Erinn Westbrook) give Jughead (Cole Sprouse) so much credit, for staying for the final battle, when he literally was going to stay in the Sweet Hereafter except Cheryl forced him to leave? His portals came in handy, but for all the talk about Jughead being the lynchpin for ensuring Percival’s defeat, it was Tabitha (and her sudden [not to mention convenient] mastery over time) that really saved their bacon.
Having palladium be Archie’s kryptonite made sense. Introducing knives that can cut him, too? It starts to miss the point of being invulnerable.
Also, fine. Toni (Vanessa Morgan) and Fangs (Drew Ray Tanner) are ok with missing their son’s childhood but is Anthony (Will Jackson) ok with it, because that’s a huge sacrifice to be deciding for a person?
