Table Top RPG Creators Corner — Seth From Witch Doctor Dice

Welcome to the table.

Welcome to our RPG Creators Corner. Today I had the chance to chat with Seth from Witch Doctor Dice.

Anton: Hello, I appreciate you taking the time to sit down and talk with me about your craft. Between your TwitterTikTok, and Website Shop your designs keep popping up from one end of the web to the other. Before we dig deeper into your approach to the craft of dice making, can you tell us a little bit about the creator behind the dice?

Seth: I’m Seth, I’m 30 years old and I live in southeast Wisconsin.

Anton: How long have you been involved in the tabletop role-playing game space?

Seth: I’ve been involved in the tabletop space for just over four years now!

Anton: Is dice making your full-time job?

Seth: Dice making is my full-time job!

Anton: How did you get into dice making?

Seth: I am a recovering addict/alcoholic so when I first started it was just a hobby to keep me busy and occupy my mind. I never imagined I would fall in love with the craft and turn it into my job.

Anton: What is your typical process from idea concept to completion?

Seth: The process can vary from day to day. Usually, I’ll pick a few colors and look through my other materials to see what might work with them. Sometimes I’ll find a character from a series or movie and theme a set around them. After I know what I want to make I pour the resin. Once the new sets are cured I take the first round of photos for social media and ask for inking suggestions usually. After that, it’s sanding, polishing, inking, cleaning, and photographing again.

Anton: You are very active on Patreon. Can you tell our readers what they can look forward to if they support you on that platform?

Seth: The biggest perk is my discord server, depending on what tier of support you’re in you can claim new sets before they go onto my website there. If I have the time I’ll also do custom commissions for my supporters. The people in the discord are a fun bunch and there are channels for chatting about crafts and tabletop games too for the people that don’t want to spend much but still want to show support.

Anton: Now, I have seen you take commissions. In that process do you prefer to be given a lot of direction or do you enjoy it more when the person commissioning you lets do what you want?
Seth: I enjoy some direction but having creative freedom is fun. The requests I get are usually for characters so I’ll have the commissioner pick a few colors and ask for a general description of what they’re after and run with it.

Anton: Your logo caught my attention when your work came across my desk and the more I looked at your art the more I really love the way you always manage to make the inking of the numbers and logo compliment the design of the dice themselves. Really tip-top work. What was the inspiration behind the logo?

Seth: The brand name came before the logo so I wanted the logo to be something you might imagine a Witchdoctor would carry on them. Animal bones is what would come to mind for me so I decided on a raven skull because it also looked like a plague doctor mask.

Anton: What’s currently going on in the TTRPG space excites you?

Seth: So much stuff! A few of my friends in the space have new shows coming out soon and there are so many talented dice makers now too.

Anton: I really appreciate you taking the time to sit and hang out with me. Would you mind telling our readers where they can keep up with you and follow your work?

Seth: The best way to keep up with me is on Twitter and Instagram. I post every day about what I’m working on and when to expect new dice on my website!

Until next time, may the crits be ever in your favor.
