NYCC 2022: ‘Good Omens’ Sets Summer 2023 Return

Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and Crowley (David Tennant) will return next summer for another round of Good Omens.

The news popped up during the show’s New York Comic Con panel (per TV Line) on Friday. The program, based on the novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, centers on the fastidious angel and the hard-living demon as they navigate what is now a post-apocalyptic world. Although, thanks to their interest in maintaining a world they enjoy, that apocalypse didn’t really work out. But just as they return to their “normal” lives, an “unexpected messenger presents a surprising mystery.” Newcomers to the series include Miranda Richardson, Maggie Service, Nina Sosanya, and Quelin Sepulveda. Storywise, the upcoming season is uncharted territory. Although, one imagines it will cover some of ideas Gaiman says he and Pratchett talked about in regard to a potential sequel across the years.

A surprise hit in 2019, Good Omens launched Gaiman’s career as a maker of television (even if American Gods was already on the air). In honor of the late Pratchett, he took the unusual step of serving as showrunner, a job he’s subsequently backed away from for projects like The Sandman and even Good Omens‘ second season. Douglas Mackinnon joins him as a showrunner for the upcoming episodes in addition to continuing on as an episode director.
