Tripwire: A Look Back At 2022…

And A Look Forward To 2023

We always do one of these posts at the end of each year as it gives us the chance to look back at what we have done over the past year and what we have planned in the coming twelve months.

2022 has been a very eventful year for Tripwire…

We published the Tripwire 30 anniversary book in both paperback with Heavy Metal and hardcover funded through zoop. We are very proud of the book and despite a few distribution delays with the paperbacks, we have created what we intended to put out when we first began thinking about it.

The zoop campaign was our fifth successful crowdfunding effort and I think that now we are getting to grips with how you run one.
Speaking of the anniversary book, we also debuted a third Sherlock Holmes and The Empire Builders  short, our best so far I think. Putting together the three shorts has given me the confidence to tackle a longer story this coming year and I am just about to start scripting the 64 page tale.

The fourth Tripwire awards were our most successful to date with more people voting than ever before. So there will be a fifth awards happening later this summer with another live presentation taking place.

The Bristol comic convention didn’t happen. Unfortunately due to a few circumstances beyond our control and some judgement calls which were a bit of a mistake, the Tripwire Bristol Comic Con never took place. But the proposed guests were all very nice about it and we are potentially looking at something else to take place either in 2023 or the year after. If it does go ahead, we shall be announcing it but only if all of our ducks are in a row properly.
We published a third Tripwire print magazine. Of the three issues since 2020, this one was probably the smoothest in terms of its production and publication and it was also the page count that made us decide that we would be testing the waters with an increased frequency next year.

4. Traffic on here has been the highest it’s been since 2019. We are very pleased with how the website has been performing in 2022 and it means we end this year on a high.

Our 30th anniversary year has seen us bring out a paperback and a hardcover book and a brand new print magazine. But we aren’t resting on our laurels though:

Next year we shall be:

Launching a print quarterly from May in the 100 page format, cover price £7.50 UK/ $9.50 US. The first three issues already have their cover features picked: May is Indiana Jones, looking back at the four films and the TV show so far and offering a preview of The Dial Of Destiny, August has Marvel’s The Avengers on its cover, with the characters hitting their 60th anniversary while November is graced with a Doctor Who cover as 2023 is that show’s 60th birthday so we shall be looking back at its history both on TV and in comics and looking forward to what’s next with everyone’s favourite TV time traveller. We have secured extra distribution as well as increasing our advertising and sponsorship so we thought this was the right time to do this.
Sherlock Holmes and The Empire Builders will be getting a full length graphic novel in the autumn. The book which will be offered through crowdfunding in hardcover as well as in paperback through regular distribution will reprint the 22 pages of shorts so far but will also include a brand new 64 page original story. We have also lined up some pretty amazing artists to create alternate covers for it: Walter Simonson, Dan Panosian, Mark Chiarello, Martin Simmonds, Shawn Martinbrough, Tommy Lee Edwards and Frazer Irving, which will grace different copies of the hardcover. We are very excited to get this out there.
We shall also be increasing content on the Tripwire YouTube channel, looking at ways of including new video content on there.
We shall also be looking at how we can enhance and improve the website too. With a year that has seen increased traffic, we want to build on that.

The last year has been pretty amazing and we celebrated our 30th anniversary in style but you haven’t seen anything yet.

Thanks for reading and for supporting us in our various endeavours in 2022.
