Writer and cosplayer Ani-Mia is back with her next comic book project. Red Sonja: Pearls Before Swine sees the she-devil with a sword attempting to take a pause between adventures. But she soon discovers a band of soldiers — mostly dead or bleeding out — who tell her of a dangerous mermaid protecting “a captivating and valuable pearl.” Her quiet holiday becomes a guest for treasure and glory against a more terrifying mermaid than the ones of popular fairy tales. And, of course, her prize may contain more than the fortune she seeks.
“[It] was a wild adventure not only for the character but also for myself as a writer,” Ani-Mia said in a statement. “After writing Bettie Page, getting the chance to create a story with such a powerful and commanding female lead was honestly empowering. Red Sonja holds nothing back and doesn’t care about pleasantries. She’s that inner warrior we all have inside, just waiting to burst out and mess some $*&% up.”
Joining the writer on her the journey are artist Igor Lima, colorist Adriano Augusto, and letterer Carlos M. Mangual. But Mia herself takes the prime spot on the cover, with Duhdragon Cosplay and Amanda Kitson offering up variant covers for the project, now live on Indiegogo. Backer tiers include the choice between the three cosplay covers, a combo pack, signed and personalized options, and rare collectible editions like CGC grading, holofoil, and metal variants.
Red Sonja: Pearls Before Swine is expected to ship in April.
