Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Deirdre O’Connell Join ‘The Penguin’

The Batman‘s elseworld continues to grow.

Variety reports Man of Steel‘s Michael KellyThe Expanse‘s Shohreh Aghdashloo and Daredevil‘s Deirdre O’Connell have joined the cast of HBO Max’s The Penguin. The program, from Lauren LeFranc and The Batman director Matt Reeves, will follow-up on ideas from the film. Specifically, it will center on Oswald Cobblepot’s (Colin Farrell) ascension in the criminal underworld following the death of Carmine Falcone (John Tuturro). Cristin Milioti is already onboard to play Sofia Falcone, so it’s easy to imagine Ozzy’s empire will not be born peacefully.

The roles of the three new hires are, of course, unknown. But we will say Kelly could make an interesting Harvey Dent, should Reeves feel comfortable introducing the character in a TV series.

As established by new DC Studios CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, The Batman film trilogy and its TV spinoffs will enjoy an Elseworlds status, giving Reeves and his collaborators freedom to develop their setting without conforming to the emerging DC Cinematic Universe.

Production is expected to begin later this month.
