Inspired by the Screaming For Vengence album, now 40 years old, Z2 Comics and Judas Priest bring you a sci-fi tale with a very particular Priest twist…
Z2 Comics and Judas Priest was promised as a sci-fi spectacle fuelled by the ideas of the band, and from the looks of the preview, they’re doing their best to deliver on that promise.
Written by Rantz A. Hoseley and Neil Kleid, with art by Christopher Mitten, Screaming For Vengence takes the ideas in the 40-year-old album and runs with it, showing us a world 500 years from now where a ring of cities orbit high above the surface of a dead world.
Yes, you can just feel the sci-fi vibes right there, just from that. And there’s a real Euro-comics, Moebius or Alejandro Jodorowsky feel to all this, that The Incal/Metabarons visual sense.
The world we’re visiting is ruled by an elite class, maintaining their rule through manipulation and brutality. But you know how it goes in these epic sci-fi things… all it takes is one person to challenge the status quo. And so it is here, as one naïve engineer inadvertently threatens that status quo with the discovery of the bloodstone. Except he’s betrayed and cast out to the dead planet below.
And on that planet, well there’s always the chance to see the Hellion – because in a Judas Priest graphic novel based on Screaming for Vengence, you just know there’s going to be a moment of the hellion launching forth…
And speaking of the Hellion, as part of the graphic novel, there’s also an exclusive interview with the Screaming for Justice original album cover artist Doug Johnson, where he talks about the origins of the Hellion and working with the band.
Judas Priest: Screaming for Vengeance will be released in both softcover and hardcover formats in book stores, comic shops, and record stores on April 18 2023
And, as is standard from Z2 Comics, there’s limited deluxe and super deluxe versions featuring an exclusive anniversary vinyl LP, prints and more, all available to preorder now exclusively through the Z2 website.
