This Saturday’s Free Comic Book Day will be a great opportunity for new readers to get to know Red Sonja.
Dynamite announced Thursday that around 95,000 copies of the special Red Sonja #0 issue for FCBD have been ordered by retailers. Free to those who visit comic book shops across the country this coming May 6th, the issue will feature the opening moments of a new Red Sonja epic from writer Torunn Grønbekk, artist Walter Geovani, colorist Omi Remalante Jr., and letterer Simon Bowland.
Seemingly caught red-handed for a murder she did not commit, the She-Devil with a Sword goes on the run from a city-state desperate to see her punished. And though she knows she didn’t kill the person who ended up on the pointy end, she has no choice but to escape as a fugitive and determine just how to clear her name.
In addition to the prelude story, Red Sonja #0 also reprints “The Temple of Abomination,” a 1975 Red Sonja tale from Roy Thomas and Dick Giordano originally released as Marvel Feature #1.
Free Comic Book Day is always celebrated on the first Saturday in May by participating retailers, offering longtime fans who read comics every month and newcomers the perfect opportunity to explore and celebrate their fandom and preview some of the biggest upcoming stories. Fans can find their closest store via the Comic Shop Locator service.
Red Sonja #1, meanwhile, is set for release this July.
