We told you it was coming back in March, but it’s now here on Kickstarter and looking for your backing – Lifeboat by 2000 AD Legend and Halo Jones co-creator Ian Gibson…

Ian Gibson’s one of the legends of 2000 AD with his work on Robo-Hunter, Judge Dredd, and of course the co-creation of Halo Jones with Alan Moore. He’d go on to co-create The Chronicles of Genghis Grimtoad with John Wagner and Alan Grant, and work on Mister Miracle, Green Lantern Corps, and Steed & Mrs Peel, amongst many more.
But it’s been a long time since we saw anything new from Gibson. Those who follow him on the socials know that nothing new published doesn’t mean not working though and we’ve been seeing pages from this project, Lifeboat, popping up over the last few years.
Well, we now have a publication date of summer 2023, as The77 Publications have now announced and begun the Kickstarter for the publication of Ian’s Lifeboat.
Not surprisingly, it destroyed a relatively modest £4,000 goal within hours and sits, at time of writing this, at somewhere just shy of £10,000.

Now personally, I was under the impression that Lifeboat was going to be a graphic novel. But instead, as it’s an ongoing work, we’re getting the first book of 22 pages in this first Kickstarter with Gibson working on book 2 right now. I don’t think Gibson fans will mind all that much however they get new material!
The 48-page Lifeboat Book 1 comes either as digital, paperback, or hardback, with 22 pages of Lifeboat Book 1 and bonus material. That bonus stuff includes prep sketches; in-depth interviews with Gibson, letterer Annie Parkhouse, and publisher Steve Bull; foreword by John Wagner; analysis by David Roach, Steve Parkhouse, and Steve McManus; plus commentary and an early look at book 2 prelim pages by Gibson.

The Kickstarter for Ian Gibson’s Lifeboat ends on 18th June 2023. Go back it now!
The rewards include digital, paperback (with a variant Gibson cover), and hardback versions of Book 1, limited edition numbered print, t-shirt, and original full colour Lifeboat artwork by Gibson.
Additionally, the77’s back catalogue, including The77 comic, BLAZER!, Pandora, and This Comic is HAUNTED are all available as add-ons to Lifeboat.
