Writer Christopher Priest‘s Vampirella saga continues with the debut of Vampirella/Dracula: Rage this August from Dynamite.
Her relationship to Matt Ecsed ended the only way it could … but it also saw Vampi pregnant. Meanwhile, Dracula proved to be alive. In Vampirella: Year One, she brought that baby to term, but as Rage begins, she finds that child has been kidnapped. A “practically faceless thrall of cultists” has absconded with the baby. Now experiencing a mother’s grief and rage, Vampi sets out to find the cult, “unsettling political and economic alliances” along the way and “unraveling the global network of the baby’s true father, Dracula.”
But the Lord of Vampires finds himself in an unusual situation: saving Vampi from herself even as some issues of the series will turn the focus to the cultists who triggered this strange tale.
In a statement, Priest said, “At the great risk of indulging in a truly time-worn trope, this will be a Vampirella we have never seen before … created to atone for her mother’s heinous acts, Vampirella’s nature is to destroy evil and protect innocence. This series will find her utterly consumed by grief. Rather than tell the story from her point of view, in Rage, Vampirella is the shark, the terrifying menace hiding in darkness waiting to strike, while, in the unlikeliest turn of all, it is Dracula trying to stop her from becoming so lost in darkness that she ends up as eternally cursed as he is. This will be a very different take on Vampirella’s character and a real challenge for me.”
Joining Priest for this chapter of Vampi’s life is artist Christian Rosado. The first issue will also be supported with covers from the likes of Lucio Parrillo, Celina, Mike Krome, Jay Anacleto, cosplayer Rachel Hollon, and Priest’s frequent Vampi accomplice Ergün Gündüz.
